Best 10 Beaches in Syros
Achladi – a lovely sheltered bay favoured by fishing boats. Swimming is excellent, good snorkeling off the rocks and the sort of waterside taverna you hope to find at every beach. It’s a small beach and the tavern is popular, but if you go earlier than 2pm you will beat the rush.
Gallisas Beach – a long sandy beach, shallow and rarely troubled by wind or waves, great for small children learning to swim. There is beach volleyball and a fabulous restaurant ‘Sunsets’ on the waterfront. If you have small children, the coffee shop nearby has a large children’s playground under shade that will keep them well entertained.
Kini Beach – a small fishing village on the west coast, with little tavernas and sandy bay – popular with locals. The main restaurant there, Allou Yiallou is famous for it’s cuisine and glamourous location, right over the water.
Agathopes – lots of sun loungers and umbrellas, tends to be busier than some in summer. A new bar restaurant, by the same people who opened Allou Yiallou has just opened, with more than a hint of Santorini glamour – a perfect cocktail hour spot. Or you can cross the road to Meltemi, a consistently good tavern with traditional Greek food.
Kommito – close to The Good Life Greece, the coast road south is a dead end and small sandy beach, often deserted. Beautiful and often empty.
Armeos – a dedicated nudist beach on a small path leading uphill from Galissas beach. This stunning private spot is a quiet respectful space for genuine nudists. But there are no services or bars, so take your own water.
Vari Beach – sandy with a few good restaurants and children’s play areas, busy in summer.
Ambela – one small sheltered bay, one great taverna spilling chairs onto the sand, lots of tamarisk trees in the sand to sleep under and you have the quietest, best serviced beach on Syros.
Bulgari and Kokkino – Poseidonia and Kinisas beaches, generally underused, but excellent beaches with good local tavernas. So a good choice if you want space for yourself.
Azolimnos – nearer Ermoupoli, sandy with tavernas, a popular beach with lots of umbrellas and loungers.
