Syros is the perfect place for activity holidays in Greece. Syros is a beautiful secret, no cruise ships crowd the harbor, no summer crowds fill the beaches and yet it is as idyllic as you could wish.

Swimming

The best activity on your holiday in Greece is swimming. Nowhere on the world are there more choices of where to swim or with safer and cleaner water. When you add the glamour of waterside restaurants with amazing prices for quality food you have the secret of the Greek islands. Syros is the right choice of island for people who prefer not to queue, who want quiet shaded beaches and nearby town with all the glamour of a small city.

Most beaches on Syros are well served with changing cubicles and outdoor showers, shaded umbrellas and recliners. The beaches are also well kept with excellent facilities for children. So how do you choose which is the best beach on Syros for you? Well, it depends on what you want. We’ve compiled a list of the 10 best beaches on Syros island to help you decide where to go.

Cycling

Cycling can be a great way to explore the beauties of Syros. The roads are quiet and safe with few extreme slopes, so this activity is pleasant even for people unused to cycling around the island. We have a range of bicycles at The Good Life Greece for guests to use, including smaller children’s bikes. For cyclists who want serious activity on their holiday in Greece there are various bike hire shops on the island like Maistrali Bike Rental and Bike Center in Ermoupoli (+30 2281076666, +30 6939280933, zkontiza@otenet.gr)

Wind Surfing

Voulgari beach is the base for Wind Surfing rentals – just walk down from The Good Life to our own beach –  both body surfing boards and surf boards are available all summer. Holidays are the time to take up water activities in Greece, and the calm, wind free waters of Syros will help you gain confidence.

Sailing

Everything from luxury yachts to small fishing crafts are available to rent from Finikas Bay, the next bay to ours. Wander down to Finikas Marina and barter the boat of your choice. Or check out this useful link: www.SailingEurope.com

If you have children who would like to sail, this is the perfect place for them. The naval base run evening sailing classes for young children in mini lasers. It is perfectly safe and possibly the cheapest sailing school in Europe.

Hiking and Walking

Bring your walking boots and enjoy the peace of the island. There are paths across the hills to follow with no chance of getting too lost. Crime is non-existent so you never have to worry about being alone. In particular the north of the island, almost uninhabited has a series of goat and donkey tracks that wind along the cliff edges with spectacular sea views on every side. Take a picnic, swimming gear and look for out of the way coves for skinny dipping.

If you don’t like to walk alone, you can join the Hiking Team of Syros in one of their tours, and discover hidden routes and beautiful parts of the island with them.
